Our Story

Rooted in Bharat is a research-led apparel brand that reinterprets Indian civilization, symbols, craftsmanship and philosophy through a contemporary lens.

The idea began with a simple question: what timeless human ideas from Indian civilization still have something to say today — and what could they look like when translated into clothing?

Growing up in India meant being surrounded by temples, festivals and traditional art. They were everywhere, yet their deeper meaning was not always understood. Over time, that distance became curiosity.

RIB grew from noticing how much contemporary design language was being built from Japanese, Scandinavian and Western references, while a civilization with an equally deep visual and philosophical vocabulary remained comparatively unexplored in everyday clothing.

The answer was never to reproduce the past. It was to study it, understand the idea beneath the image, and find a restrained way to bring that idea into the present.

What we believe

Research comes before image. Every piece begins with something worth investigating — a philosophy, material, craft, symbol, historical reference or human idea.

From there, we reinterpret rather than reproduce. Cultural references are translated through line, proportion, texture, structure and typography instead of being turned into costume or decoration.

The result is clothing that is quiet enough to wear every day, but considered enough to make you curious about where the idea came from.

Our approach

  • Research before design.
  • Reinterpretation rather than reproduction.
  • Material, texture and craft over artificial effects.
  • Contemporary design without losing cultural specificity.
  • Restraint as a form of respect.

Why Rooted in Bharat?

Because Indian civilization is not only something to look back at. It is a living source of ideas — about identity, nature, philosophy, craft, existence and the human experience.

We want to explore those ideas collection by collection, turning research into clothing and clothing into a reason to look deeper.

Our first study, VAYU, begins with air: present without being held, felt without being seen. It is the beginning of an ongoing archive, not the end of one.

Looking ahead

Our long-term ambition is to build a living archive of Indian visual and philosophical heritage — one that can continue beyond any single collection and keep Indian civilizational thought relevant to the way we design and live today.
